Many times people mistake me as foreigner. Let’s see, twice as Japanese (one incident was a Japanese sitting next to me start talking to me in Japanese), twice as Malay (don’t ask me why) and uncountable times as Mainland Chinese a.k.a大陆妹.
Yah, I might be fairer then most Malaysian Chinese and also I have phoenix eyes but but but………… I am not 大陆妹ler.
So I am quite sensitive when ask me: are you local?
First think come to my mind is: what? Do I look like 大陆妹?
So couple of weeks back, I had dinner with some friends. One guy who I met for the first time asks me: so Edel, are you local?
Edel: yah of course, do I look like大陆妹?
Guy: Er……. No la. (Faster change topic)
Then we continue talk about other things.
Later I found out what he meant was, am I local as in Kuala Lumpur local because most of my friends are either Johorian or Sarawakian.
Note to self: Don’t jump when people ask whether I am local or not, it doesn’t mean I look like大陆妹.
